Mira and the Giant Squid

Mira's teachers and schoolmates notice something different about her today: she has a giant squid on her head! The teachers don't approve at all of her new friend. Even though it's not breaking any specific rule, they insist there's something wrong with a girl bringing a squid to school.

Mira walked into school with a giant squid on her head
A giant squid, a giant squid, right on top of her head, yeah
"You can't wear that thing in class," the teacher said
"I'm sure it's in the dress code, no squid on a student's head, yeah"

Mira said, "oh, oh oh,
But don't you know
It won't let go"
"Well, fine, if that's your attitude
You can go and see the principal!"

Oh, the giant squid
Oh, oh, oh, the giant squid
You just had to be the kid
Who made friends with the giant squid
With the giant squid

"So, Mira, what is up with that giant squid on your head
The giant squid, the giant squid, right on top of your head, yeah
Why could you have a cute little lamb instead
Girls with lambs are precious; why not get a lamb instead, yeah?"

Mira said, "you know it's true
Sometimes you pick your friends
Sometimes they pick you
And sometimes they have tentacles with suction cups
And you just can't argue"

Oh, the giant squid
Oh, oh, oh, the giant squid
You just had to be the kid
Who made friends with the giant squid
With the giant squid

Well, they sent Mira home
And on the way home
That squid rescued fifteen people
Trapped inside a burning donut shop
There were TV crews
It was on the news
And from that day on, everyone said
"Hurray for Mira and hurray for the squid on her head!"

Oh, the giant squid
Oh, oh, oh, the giant squid
You just had to be the kid
Who made friends with the giant squid. . .
